Requirements

The Channeler association of Lorino waterway asked us for a hydrogeological study in the area where the watersprings are born and where they supply this channel at Panquehue district, Valparaiso region. The objective of this quest is to define and quantify any possible impact on of the drainage works built there and it’s influence in Lo Campo stream, which is from where the waterway of interest is born.

Work Done

An environmental and physical characterization was made in order to define the system’s natural behavior and the interaction between groundwater and surface water.

In addition, hydrometeorological information was analyzed along with available rainfall statistics and flowmetry. The characteristics of the drainage (accumulation and collection) were also checked to evaluate the potential impact and propose the necessary mitigation measures.

Results

This study concluded in a technical report that shows and characterize the local hydrogeological conditions and describe the relationship between groundwaters and surface waters.

As a result of this characterization, we proposed to implement an automatic flow measurement system in Lo Campo stream and in Lorino waterway in order to get surface runoff measurements and gather data that allows to improve the knowledge about the water system and test the potential effects of the drainage in the watersprings that sustain the creation of Lo Campo stream.
