Conceptual and Numerical hydrogeological modelling – Chayahué Peninsula,
Calbuco, Los Lagos Region.
Requirement
We were asked to develop a conceptual and numerical hydrogeological model in a place where a Fish Farm is located. The previous with the goal of accomplish a sustainable and efficient management of water resources.
The challenge in this requirement was to understand the aquifer’s dynamics and later on, make a numerical model capable of simulate its behavior facing several pumping scenarios.
Work Done
To accomplish this study, different activities took place:
- Pumping test analyses.
- Geological study of the place.
- Aquifer’s hydraulic parameters calculation.
- Water quality profiling inside the wells.
- Hydrogeological survey of the sector.
- Geophysics prospection campaign using Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT).
- Water quality analyses.
- Piezometry elaboration.
- Water balance and recharge calculation.
Results
The information gathered by our team let us define:
- The Conceptual hydrogeological model.
- The water balance calculations.
- The implementation of the numerical model.
Finally, starting from this numerical modelling, we made several approaches for water managing and for having a Controlling Plan to optimize groundwater production with quality and quantity criteria.
